Agility without stability is a waste of energy

In light of the effects of VUCA, the introduction of Agile working methods has long since ceased to be a question of whether or not Agility is beneficial, but instead of how and under what conditions agility can bring benefits.
Think about the internal combustion engine: a key characteristic of the engine is that both the cylinder and the piston are made of stable material. If they were unstable, the transmission of power from the explosion of the air-gas mixture to the crankshaft would fail completely or partially. This is also the case in companies: agile working methods release energy, and to ensure that this does not dissipate reliable mechanisms and processes are needed to channel this released energy in pursuit of the company’s goals.
