How to manage challenging optimization projects as a Black Belt and lead them to lasting success

Digital Badge for UMS Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

In five consecutive modules, you will work through the entire DMAIC cycle: from methodological fundamentals through change and leadership competencies to advanced statistical analysis. You will continuously work on your own optimization project and directly apply the content to real-world practice. Additionally, you will use AI as a sparring partner and coach for your project work.

This training enables you to

  • Master the entire DMAIC cycle with confidence
  • Analyze and solve process problems using both methodological and statistical approaches
  • Effectively lead project teams and professionally manage change processes
  • Achieve sustainable, measurable results for your organization

Modules

In this module, you lay the methodological foundation for your optimization project and work through the first DMAIC phases.

Define

  • You clarify your role as an aspiring Black Belt and define your optimization project within the strategic context
  • You formulate a clear problem statement including target vision, value proposition, and success criteria

Measure

  • You learn to systematically capture processes and derive meaningful performance metrics
  • You assess current process performance based on facts and create a solid data foundation for further analysis

In this module, you develop the leadership, facilitation, and change competencies necessary for successful transformation projects.

The Role of the Black Belt

  • You sharpen your understanding of your role as a change project leader
  • You professionally represent your project to executives and stakeholders

Successful Teamwork & Communication

  • You manage group dynamics and conflicts within the project
  • You apply targeted facilitation and feedback techniques

Managing Change

  • You build acceptance and commitment for your project
  • You embed changes sustainably within the system

In this module, you systematically analyze your process and identify the root causes of existing problems.

Analyze

  • You visualize your process and analyze it purposefully along workflows, interfaces, and information flows
  • You identify sources of waste and systematically examine value-added activities within the process
  • You analyze lead times, process times, and efficiency potential based on value and time analysis
  • You identify capacity constraints and bottlenecks and assess their impact on overall performance
  • You structure and segment data to make patterns and root causes more visible

In this module, you work data-driven to verify root causes and learn to apply statistical methods specifically for decision-making and process optimization.

Advanced Analyze (Focus: Data analysis)

  • You translate real-world problems into statistical questions and select the appropriate test to answer them
  • You conduct hypothesis tests to systematically verify suspected root causes
  • You analyze differences between groups using analysis of variance (ANOVA)
  • You examine relationships and effect sizes using correlation and regression analyses
  • You plan and structure experiments to systematically identify and optimize influencing factors
  • You apply Design of Experiments approaches to efficiently investigate multiple variables simultaneously

In this module, you take your project from statistical root cause verification through sustainable implementation and anchoring.

Improve

  • You develop and structure solutions based on verified root causes using Lean and best-practice methods
  • You finalize an implementable solution concept and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of your measures
  • You plan piloting and implementation and manage execution using appropriate project management approaches

Control

  • You document the new process and establish clear standards for implementation (e.g., SOPs)
  • You set up KPI-based monitoring with response mechanisms for sustainable control
  • You ensure sustainability through handover to the process owner, structured audits, and documented lessons learned
  • Supplementary e-learning courses for self-study (5 days)
You deepen and review your acquired knowledge through self-study with our e-learning formats: before, during, or after the respective training modules
  • Final Exam: You validate your knowledge across all modules
Project Work: You work on an improvement project and apply the newly learned tools and methods

Learning Environment

You learn with us through an integrated blended learning approach that combines training modules, e-learnings, self-directed learning, and hands-on project work. The modules build systematically upon each other: from DMAIC fundamentals through change and leadership competencies to advanced statistical methods.

  • Supplementary e-learnings throughout the entire DMAIC cycle enable you to deepen content as needed or review specific topics
  • Simulations and group exercises help you not only understand Lean Six Sigma principles but also apply them directly
  • Work on practical examples and on your own project
  • Structured templates and digital materials support you in putting what you have learned into practice
  • Active exchange with trainers and fellow participants provides additional new perspectives and practice-relevant insights

Service Package

  • 25 days Blended Learning Lean Six Sigma Training including badges
  • E-learnings in your personal UMS Academy Workspace (LMS)
  • Digital folder for the Black Belt Training, Minitab (MTB), and Change Implementation Tools (CIT)
  • Book “Six Sigma + Lean Toolset”
  • Training materials and documentation in the LMS
  • Workbook for project work and project documentation (PPT)

Benefits

  • Comprehensive confidence in the Black Belt role: methodologically, analytically, and in leading complex optimization projects
  • Deep understanding of methods and statistics for complex projects
  • Effective leadership of project teams and professional handling of change
  • Recognized Black Belt qualification with certificate and digital badges
  • Project implementation with AI support as sparring partner and coach

Coaches

Your trainers are experienced UMS consultants with extensive hands-on experience in Lean Six Sigma projects. They combine methodological depth with statistical expertise and real-world experience from optimization and change initiatives, guiding you confidently through all five modules and your project work.
